Lieutenant-General Hon. James Douglas (died 1691) was Colonel of the Scots Regiment of Footguards, at that time a regiment on the establishment of the English Army.
==Military career==
Born the son of James Douglas, 2nd Earl of Queensberry, Douglas passed his advocate exams before entering the Army and, having become Colonel of the Scots Regiment of Footguards in June 1684,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Scots Guards Colonels )〕 he went on to become Commander-in-Chief, Scotland in 1688.〔Charles Dalton, ''(The Scots army, 1661-1688, with memoirs of the commanders-in-chief )'' (London, 1909).〕 He commanded an army of 10,000 supporters of King William III at the Battle of the Boyne in July 1690 during the Williamite War in Ireland〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Lt General James Douglas )〕 and died at the Siege of Namur in 1691 during the Nine Years' War.
